Alexandra Bryant grew up on a farm in the Tarkastad district of the Eastern Cape and majored in isiXhosa at the University of Cape Town as part of her Bachelor of Arts Degree. She has proven experience in the field of isiXhosa teaching and in terms of results. She has taught isiXhosa for fifteen years at various schools in Cape Town and is presently teaching isiXhosa First Additional Language to senior school learners.
Xandi has a special interest in - and is dedicated to - teaching Xhosa as a Second Language. For her, Xhosa in not just a subject, but a way of embracing her compatriots and broadening her mind. It is this vision that inspired her to write Xhosa for Second-Language Learners.
She hopes to inspire as many people as possible to speak Xhosa, thereby making the language more accessible to more South Africans. Her goal - and the objective of writing this book - is that every student wanting to learn Xhosa is able to turn to a clear, concise handbook that is easy to access and negotiate. She hopes that Xhosa for Second-Language Learners will assist and inspire many generations of students as they learn to love the beautiful language that is Xhosa.
